The best nights out, for the price of pasta.

Strangers if you like, but not only: your course, your five-a-side team, your drama society. Pre-drinks, a game night, a big bowl of pasta, for the price of the groceries.

The vibe

A drink before going out, board games, match night.

Drinks before heading out dancing, a board game that ends at 2 am, the final on a coursemate’s sofa: you pick your plan, the host takes care of the rest.

  • The format, the time and the menu are shown before you book.
  • Sqwats from your circles land in your notifications.
The cooking

No need to be a top chef.

A good plate of pasta does the job: what counts is the people around the table. And when it’s your turn to host, Sqwat writes your shopping list and guides you in the kitchen, step by step.

  • Over 600 recipes, from chilli to lasagne.
  • Quantities worked out for your table.
  • Everyone’s allergies and diets, checked before you cook.

Small budget

The price of the groceries. That’s it.

No restaurant bill, no delivery fees: you pay your share of the groceries, Sqwat fee included, shown before you book. And a lot more fun than a takeaway in front of your series.

Come as two

Shy about your first sqwat? Bring a mate.

Add your friend to your request: one request for both of you, even if they’re not on Sqwat yet. A link by text or WhatsApp is all it takes.

  • The host sees your request once you’ve both said yes.
  • Each of you pays for your place, or you treat them.

Ratings, so you know you’ll have a good time.

After every meal, guests rate the host on cooking, cleanliness and atmosphere; the host rates their guests on punctuality, atmosphere and manners. It’s all on the profile, before you book.

Questions

Everything, explained.

Can I come on my own?

Yes, that’s the whole idea of public sqwats: everyone comes wanting to meet people. And if you’d rather, bring a friend: one request for both of you.

I only have a tiny kitchen. Can I host?

Of course: drinks, a raclette, pasta for four. And if you don’t have the space, offer to-go boxes.

How much does it cost, and how is the price worked out?

The app is free. The host estimates the groceries, and Sqwat splits them across every place, the host’s own included: the host pays their share like everyone else. The price shown includes the Sqwat fee (5 % plus €0.99 per place). It’s set from the start and doesn’t change, even if some places stay empty. Your card is held when you ask for a place, and only charged if the host accepts you.

Max price or fixed price: what’s the difference?

With a max price, you pay at most the price shown: after the meal, the host enters what they really spent, and you get the difference back. With a fixed price, you pay the price shown, whatever the receipt says. And in a private or secret sqwat, the host can also cover everything: their guests pay nothing.

What the tax office says: does the host make money?

At home, it’s cost sharing: as long as the host eats with their guests and what they pay doesn’t exceed the real cost of the groceries, it isn’t income. Anything the host receives above that is taxable income they must declare. That’s why Sqwat works out the price from the groceries. For to-go sqwats, the rule is stricter: one to-go sqwat a week at most (beyond that, it becomes a catering business, with a professional kitchen and licences), and what the host receives is taxable, even if it only pays back the groceries.
